Administering the exam:

• The NGE is an online, proctored exam. Students taking the exam must have a proctor who registers the student, administers the exam to the student, and receives the score results to distribute to the student.

• The proctor can be the German teacher, guidance counselor, language program coordinator, tutor, or another school administrator. Parents/guardians cannot serve as proctors. Proctors must be an AATG member or pay the non-member sponsor fee. See the registration page for more details.

• The exam is comprised of 100 multiple choice questions divided into two parts with 50 questions each. The listening and viewing portion is 40 minutes in length. The reading portion is 40 minutes in length. Before starting the exam, students must fill out the five-minute student questionnaire assignment in Lingco.

• In order to take the exam, students will need a stable internet connection, a screen size of at least 1280 x 720 pixels, and functioning speakers or headphones.

• Download and read through the NGE Administration Guide, which walks you through the steps of administering the exam and preparing for exam day.

• Review the technical requirements. The items used in the NGE are designed for larger screens, so we do not recommend using any mobile device or tablet at this time.
